Christmas Baked Apples

4 - 6 large baking apples
1 cup prepared mincemeat
1 cup brown sugar (firmly packed)
1 cup water
2 tbsp. margarine
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 tsp. cinnamon

Core apples but do not pierce completely through. Cut strip form top of each.
Place in a 13 x 8" greased baking dish. Fill cavity of apples with the mincemeat.
In a medium saucepan place remaining ingredients. Bring to a slow boil.
Pour over apples in dish. Bake uncovered in a 350*F oven for approx. 1 hour.
Baste occasionally. Serve with a dollop of fresh cream, if desired.
